The Miracle Worker
The Harborfields Theatre Company is switching things up for this year’s fall play with their moving, heart-tugging rendition of “The Miracle Worker.” Under the direction of Mr. Incorvaia, we see the students of HF bring Helen Keller’s story to life. Mr. Incorvaia tells of the production, “It’ll be a miracle if it all works!”
The play follows Helen (Skya Theobald), a young girl who has been blinded and made deaf after a terrible fever when she was a baby. Her violent frustration and inability to communicate leaves her parents with seemingly no other options other than putting her in an asylum. Fortunately, a determined teacher, Annie (Jade Cheung-Becker), sees beyond Helen’s struggles and ultimately shows her the beauty of language.
Jade Cheung-Becker, who plays Annie, says that “This production tells as timeless story and it’s quite a workout to do. It’s such an inspiring show and people should definitely come see it.”
Skya Theobald, on another hand, who portrays Annie, says she is “...so honored and excited to take on such a challenging character. As an actress I’m always thinking about what I’m saying an eye contact but I can’t do that here and everything I want to say has to be communicated through body language. Helen doesn’t even think with words, she just has feelings. I hope I can do her justice.”
The cast and crew have worked so incredibly hard to put on this eye-opening production. The show will take place on Friday November 2nd and November 3rd at 7pm. Be sure to buy your tickets and support HTCo - You definitely won’t want to miss HTCo’s incredible and inspiring take on this production!
