Best Rap Album of the Year

Undoubtedly, 2017 has been one of the best years for the hip-hop genre as whole this decade. So much music has been produced this past year, and in an age when music listeners this year prefer quantity of music over quality, so many projects have managed to satisfy both sides of the spectrum and have become without music that fans will listen to for years to come.

With projects such as Big Sean’s “Finally Decided, Lil Uzi Vert’s “LUV is Rage 2”, Migos’  “Culture, Logic’s “Everybody”, Jay Z’s “4:44”, and A Boogie’s “The Bigger Artist”, it’s clear that the most complete and impactful album that has released this year is DAMN by none other than Kendrick Lamar.

With bass banging hits such as DNA and HUMBLE and slow and chill songs such as LOYALTY and LOVE, DAMN produces such a diverse sound that compliments all elements of hip-hop that all fans of the genre could be sure to enjoy. The concluding song of the album, DUCKWORTH, displays “Kung-Fu Kenny’s” amazing talents of mixing both storytelling as well as his intellectual wordplay and stunning flow. With the album coming full circle from the beginning to the end, DAMN is an amazing story with great production and lyricism.

Matthew DiDomenico, an avid listener of hip-hop says, “DAMN is by far the best album that’s come out this year. Kendrick showed the ability to combine great features such as Rihanna and U2 to create a great story that comes full circle. A thing that he did very well was use multiple beats and transitions in each song to make it unique and provide a different feel for multiple parts of the same song.”

It’s safe to say that Kendrick Lamar has cemented himself as one of hip-hop’s greats and has made a project that people will listen to very often for years and years to come.
