This Tuesday the HF Marching Band and Kickline stormed the 55th annual Newsday Festival. These students have worked diligently since the summer preparing for their biggest event of the year.
With help of the drum majors, Janie Kowalchuck and Olivia Ottaviano, these students put on an amazing performance. Band director, Miss Scilla, was very excited prior to this event. She was so excited to see her drum majors perform and direct in their last Newsday Festival.
“Our drum majors have grown throughout the years. And they have also grown as leaders and I’m excited for them to show off their skills at their last Newsday performance,” Miss Scilla stated before the event.
Every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 you can catch the marching band and kickline practicing their drills to be performed during the football games. Since the summer these students have been blocking, marching, and performing for their peers. And with all this practicing they are ready to perform in front of all the schools on Long Island.
The HF Marching Band and Kickline performed three amazing drills. They performed Crazy Train, originally performed by Ozzy Osbourne, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, originally performed by Queen, and Crazy in Love, originally performed by Beyoncé. Kickline choreography was done by senior, Lauren Brown, and junior, Brooke Winterlich.
“I’m so excited for Newsday this year. It’s always been one of my favorite parts of being on kickline! Although I’m a little nervous, I know it’ll all be fine because of our amazing team this year. I can’t wait to perform on Tuesday and spend time with my team” Brooke exclaimed prior to the event.
Congratulations to the Marching Band and Kickline as they had another successful performance at this years annual Newsday Festival.
