Nominated for twelve Tony awards, Mean Girls the musical based on the popular movie under the same name was bound to become a hit in my burn book. Written by Tina Fey and orchestrations by Jeff Richmond, this power couple created a masterpiece. Winning no Tony awards and only a handful of others awards, audiences all over (including me), were stunned because we thought the show would bring home the several big wins.
I went to see the movie Instant Family over the weekend and found myself crying most of the way through it. Not only because of the saddening narrative of foster children finding a home and being loved for who they are but mainly because it was disappointing to see that our system worked nothing like the one portrayed in the movie. To their credit, they were able to fully capture some of the things that are difficult when bringing foster children into your homes such as distrust and the inability to accept gifts, because ultimately sometimes they feel unworthy of being loved.

Who doesn’t love opening gifts on Christmas or Hanukkah? Opening that Patrick Mahomes jersey you wanted, that new pair of Yeezys, an Xbox, all of which give you that warm feeling of the holidays. However, there is always that one aunt, uncle, brother, sister, or cousin, who decides to give you the worst gift of all. Some of which include coupons for free chores, socks, underwear, re-gifts, and other massive disappointments. You have to be some cruel animal to enjoy watching a kid's face as he opens a pair of socks, instead of even a gift card somewhere. The kid looks like he's eating his mother's cooking that is so foul, he winces at first but forces a smile because he has to. For all you gifters out there do not get any of the following gifts for your friends, siblings, parents, children, or any human that has a soul.
