Everybody
While 2017 was ultimately headlined by Kendrick Lamar’s latest album DAMN, it wasn’t the only album that made its mark on society this year. Dropped by Logic in early May, Everybody was the product of the rapper’s ambition to bring awareness to problems in society, such as suicide, depression, racism, and so much more. At the forefront of this objective, was “1-800-273-8255,” Named after the number of the National Suicide Hotline, Logic, along with Alessia Cara and Rising star Khalid, brought massive attention to the suicide epidemic, with calls to the hotline going up 27% just 3 weeks after the songs release.
The song’s impact earned a grammy nomination, as well as top spots on charts across the globe. While “1-800-273-8255” was undoubtedly the most successful track on his album, don’t think that this song was all Everybody had to offer. Songs like Black Spiderman, Everybody, and Killing Spree also earned spots on the charts as well.
“I really enjoyed the overall message of his album. I think it’s very important to bring awareness to problems like suicide, anxiety and depression, and Logic was able to do that, especially with 1-800-273-8255,” says HF junior Julia Devita. The biracial rap artist has been able to masterfully deliver a message of peace, love, and positivity in his newest album, something that society needs to learn from in this day and age.
