UFC 249 On For May 9th
UFC 249 has come a long way since it was first scheduled. The event was supposed to have Khabib Numagomedov vs Tony Ferguson on April 18 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic Khabib was forced to drop out and is being replaced by Justin Gaejthe. The new date is now May 9, 2020.
This card is featuring many major fights and will be a very interesting night. Starting off with the main event there is Ferguson vs Gaejthe for the interim Lightweight title. They are pretty evenly matched but my prediction is Ferguson wins this bout due to his outstanding cardio and defense. But the tables can turn with one punch as Gaejthe is one of the most powerful strikers in the division. The odds are Ferguson winning and Gaejthe as the underdog. The winner of this fight will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title.
Next up there is Henry Cejudo vs Dominick Cruz for the Bantamweight championship. This fight is going to be very interesting because Cruz was once the champ back in 2010 and 2016. He is now 35 years old so he may be a little depleted but still very dangerous. His opponent Henry Cejudo was the Flyweight champion and is also the current Bantamweight champion. He has outstanding wrestling and also good power. The odds are Cejudo winning and Cruz as the underdog.
Next up is a Heavyweight bout between Francis Ngannou and Jairznho Rozenstruik. Ngannou is the number 2 ranked Heavyweight and Rozenstruik is the number 6 ranked. Ngannou is a very powerful fighter holding a record of 14-3. He is a very powerful striker and has pretty good wrestling. He is believed to be granted a title shot should he win this fight. Rozenstruik is currently 10-0 and is a very dangerous striker as well. This makes the fight very interesting. The odds are Ngannou winning and Rozenstruik as the underdog.
On one of the undercard fights is legend Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis. This is a fight that should not be an undercard fight. These are two extremely exciting fighters to watch. Cerrone is 36-14 who has the most head kick KO’s of all time, and Pettis is nicknamed Showtime because of his extreme combos and kicks. Although the fight means nothing for the rankings it is still going to be one of the better fights on the card.
With this stacked card everyone can only hope that they are able to make it happen this Saturday. HF student Vinny Alfiero said, “This card is one of the most exciting that there has been in a while. I hope it happens.” To watch UFC 249 you can go on ESPN+ and purchase the pay-per view.
