High School: Everything You Need To Know
Going in to the High School is a really big transition for any student, and it can seem daunting to start at a new school. Everybody has first day nerves regardless of what grade they are in. It is a new adventure for the freshman and they have 4 years of knowledge, growth, and challenges ahead of them. With these few tips, you will have a marvelous start to a new chapter of your life.
Friends: As you are about to enter High School which is a big change in your life, the people will change as well. The people you were friends with in middle school might not necessarily be your friends in high school. Everyone will find different groups of people. It is good to keep your old friends but it is a good idea to expand your horizons and talk to as many people as you can. This will be a great opportunity to meet new people and not keep all your eggs in one basket. It is common to worry about finding your true friends. Even if you don’t find your true group of friends within the first year of high school, eventually you will. It may take you all 4 years but it will be worth it to have a group of people that you can trust and know they always have your back no matter what. “I am so grateful for all the people that I met and became friends with. I have made so many new friends from my 4 years here.” says senior, Brittany Vaughn.
Work & Stress: There are lots of fun things to look forward to in high school but it is still important to prioritize your school work. The work will be more challenging than it was in middle school but if you know how to manage your time and have good study skills it won’t be as hard. “School work can be a challenge at times but I use any resource I can to do well. For instance, the math lab is always open and if I know im struggling with a topic in math I go there to get extra help so I can be prepared” says senior, Andrea Harvey. You should always seek out help and learn which study skills help you the most because this will impact SAT/ACT scores. You want to make sure you stay on top of things because this will all matter when your applying for college. Your teachers will be there to help you so you should utilize that when you need. Teachers won’t be as strict and won’t be as on top of you about doing what you need to do so it is your decision and what you put in is what you get out.
Challenges: During your 4 years in high school, there will be various situations that will force you to step out of your comfort zone. “During my time in high school I was faced with several challenges but they all helped me to become stronger” says senior, Jillian Mcguire. All though this can sound very daunting, this is actually really beneficial to you because it will help you to grow and improve on your weaknesses. Whether it is taking the SAT for the first time or giving a presentation to the class, don’t be afraid to take on the challenge. It is always worth a try. There can also be challenges outside of school such as peer pressure and friend drama. Just remember that it always gets better.
Self expression: Fashion can be a very big part of your high school experience. You will start to see more people changing the way they dress and the way they express themselves. The way you dress changes as you get older. You should express yourself the way you want to and not let other people change that.
