Have You Applied Yet?
Many high school students are having trouble this year when it comes to applying to college. Although some people may think we must be having a pretty “easy year” with everything going on, it seems to be the opposite.
Applying to college this year is one of the hardest parts with everything going on. Many students, including myself, were unable to take any standardized tests, or they were rushed into taking one when they weren’t prepared. With that, many schools nationwide have gone test-optional, to be accommodating to students who were unable to take tests.
As many students have finished applying to colleges, some might not have even started. Most deadlines stem from October 15th to January 15th. Many students have spoken on how far they have come in their application process. Brooke Buda recently said, “I submitted all my applications about a week or two ago. Getting them done lifted the biggest weight off my shoulders, but I hate waiting”. Many students feel the same way.
Waiting on deadlines can be one of the most stressful parts about this process. Adelaide Kline had said she “...wishes there was one more month before deadlines, but also I want them over with”. Which makes sense, as we are looking for more time to finish applications, but also we all would just like to know where we are going to college already.
Recently, Melina Sandel has said how she “Feels stressed, but overwhelmed would be a better word to describe it”. This is a perfect way to describe how we are all feeling. Many of us just have one or two more schools left, and it seems that those last ones are always pushed off the most.
We all can’t wait to hear back from the schools, and finally figure out what our futures have to offer. Finding out where we are all going to end up will give us all a little bit of happiness that we all need after this past year. The thought of something in our lives being known ahead of time is something we all need.
COVID-19 has brought more stress and unknowns into our lives than anything else. With that, something like knowing where we go to college will keep us happy and less worried about what is going to happen next.
