Music's Effect on Studying
Many people have different experiences when it comes to studying with music. Some say it helps them instantly and they then have better grades and remember topics better. While others say that music makes them more distracted and they find it harder to focus on their work.
Many people believe that studying with music can help them to remember topics and important notes. This can be because they will be able to remember what part of the song they were listening to when they were studying.
For most people, the music is just background noise while doing their work, but for some people, it is such a distraction and they need it to be silent when studying.
Many teachers seem to think music is distracting for students, and will cause them to focus more on the music rather than what they are supposed to be paying attention to.
However, other teachers will play music in the background of class for students, whether it is in a lab period or during independent work. For the most part, students tend to like those teachers more.
After speaking with many students, it is clear that people prefer music to be on when they are studying. Brenna Dorsam had said, “Music definitely helps me study. I’ve been listening to music while studying for years and it has only helped me”. Many people agree with her statement, that it has only made things easier throughout the studying process to listen to music.
A friend of mine from work, Anna Lynch, has said that, “Music is a big part of my study routine, and usually if I don’t have music on I get more distracted by other things around me”. This is something most people would agree on. If you have a routine of using music to study, studying without it can actually end up causing more distractions.
After speaking to my brother, Sam, who is a sophomore in college, he said that when he and his roommates are studying, they have to have music on because it prevents them from talking to each other and getting distracted.
This makes sense, because the music serves as a way to drown out the ability to speak to each other and then they can focus more.
Music is something we are lucky to all have easy access to, and with that we are given the ability to be able to have the choice of listening to it while we study or do school work.
