Apple Watch: Is it Worth it?

Is it worth it? The Apple Watch is part of today’s new tech lineup, and has been getting a lot of buzz. The series of smartwatches is designed, developed and marketed by Apple. Apple always has a way of drawing in their customers to buy their products, but is the Apple Watch worth it, and is it useful for practical purposes?

The watch was released in April of 2015 and since then, over 5 million have been sold, according to Apple.com. The device comes with “fitness tracking and health oriented capabilities.” Most of the functions though, are available through the other Apple products.

The Series 3 Apple Watch comes with several new features that make it stand out, like cellular, which means you don’t need to connect the device to your phone to make calls and text. Text and call features were obviously already available through the Aapple iPhone and other products, which makes it not that impressive. What really stands out is the heart rate tracker; it’s pretty accurate, but checking your pulse with your finger is not that difficult. The other health related capabilities like tracking steps, distance walked, etc. have been on the iPhone for awhile now, and spending loads of cash for another device that does the same thing wouldn’t make sense.

Yet some people that are into fitness would vouch for the watch. Running, losing weight, sleeping, swimming can be more organized and classified. If one were to attempt to use all the features of the watch on their phone, they would run into some trouble. It would take many separate fitness apps on the phone, but with the watch all it takes is using the pre-loaded features. Also it would be harder to swim or run with a hefty phone in your pocket. With the watch, it’s always on your wrist.

The Apple website says “new Apple Watch Series 3 is just that, a smartwatch that essentially puts a tiny 4G LTE phone on your wrist.”It really comes down to the type of person you are. If you’re someone who’s really into fitness, and has enough money to spend $400 on a watch, then this device is for you. If not, I would just stick to your phone.
