Can Brain Implants Give the Government Access to Our Inner Thoughts?
As technology advances, our future is slowly becoming something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Scientists are creating neural interfaces which are brain implants... They may be able to read your thoughts and they currently record brain activity. This could potentially be the new wave of the future.
They are currently licensed to help medical conditions such as epilepsy to strokes. Neural interfaces open endless doors of possibility. It may possibly be able to help treating conditions like paralysis, dementia, other mental help conditions, and even obesity, according to an article on CNN.
"While advances like seamless brain-to-computer communication seem a much more distant possibility, we should act now to ensure our ethical and regulatory safeguards are flexible enough for any future development,” said Dr. Tim Constandinou, director of the Next Generation Neural Interfaces (NGNI) Lab at Imperial College London.
In order to insure that our human rights are protected we must do extensive research into this new technological advancement. Neural interfaces could go two different ways. It could benefit many people's lives and solve numerous conditions people have or it could be abused and invade our privacy. Our thoughts is something that is just meant for us. So is it ethical to allow the government and other people access to it? That is a big question that will begin to arise in the near future
