The Power of Makeup

Imagine using a technique which allows all your insecurities to flow out instantly.  Many people have modified the use of makeup, where they are allowed to feel comfortable in their own skin.  Makeup empowers people and raises self confidence levels.  Many people prosper emotionally because of the connection between the person and this exquisite passion.  Although there are a few negatives, there are many benefits to the art of makeup.  Cosmetics rearrange the perception of life to the people who wear makeup, as well as the assumptions of the people who view the makeup.  Men and women can finally come together and have their own unique form of self expression.

Have you ever had a really bad break out and woke up one day with a huge pimple on your face?  How humiliating!  Now you're thinking about how your whole day is going to be ruined.  But there is an easy way to cover that wicked pimple up by using some makeup.  The first step to understanding the power of makeup is simply by experiencing it.  Experiencing the betrayal your own face has caused you, the strain you have come across, and worst of all: the feeling of insecurity.  Makeup is a technique used by people of all genders as a way to enhance features of one's face.  Women and men are able to apply this concept as frequently as possible. Let's say an individual wants to alternate the way their eyebrows look.  Filling in the emptiness of their eyebrows is like filling in the void of the specific insecurity this individual had about their eyebrows.  Now this individual looks the way they want and feels even more confident.  Starting off with an easy and simple step can challenge oneself into going deeper with the technique.  Makeup is a form of self expression, which means you can convey your mood, personality, and even emotions through makeup.  When it comes to social events or even work, studies have shown that “matching your makeup to the situation can help show that you’re prepared” (Loreal.)

When it comes to the application of cosmetics, there are two groups of people: the people who oppose makeup and the people who support makeup.  Many of the people who oppose ask themselves a basic question: why should we allow people to look like something they’re not?   “Changing one’s appearance can lead to unfavorable society opinions.  Many people are found to be bamboozled when they encounter a person who usually wears makeup without it” (Burriss.) Makeup is all about perspective.  It's the way an individual chooses to present themselves to the world.  Yet, people in society are quick to judge and form opinions on people who they don't personally know.  Since many people are stuck in their egotistical minds and are quick to judge, they are invalidating one’s personal beliefs.  The better question to ask in this case is why is society threatened by confidence?

Women all around the world experience the differences in the treatment they receive when they wear makeup versus when they don't.  Studies show that in modern society “31% of women aged 18 to 29 apply makeup everyday.  Makeup statistics show that young women apply makeup several times per week, and only 10% never use makeup.  On the contrary, 35% of women aged 60 or older use makeup products every day” (Dealsonhealth.)  In a recent survey, women have come out and said their true feelings and experience about makeup.  One girl spoke up and said “I come across as ‘intimidating’ and ‘mean’.  I’ve had people tell me that before they got to know me they thought I’d be stuck up”(Ronproject.)  Without makeup, it's easier to focus on the interior and not the exterior.  Another woman said going out with a full face “can earn just as much ridicule as going without makeup.  She has learned that what gets the best response from other people is average ‘natural looking’ makeup”( Ronproject.)  Many women have reported that taking off the makeup at the end of the day is the worst struggle of all because after an eventful day of being at their full potential, it's draining to see their true selves in the mirror.  Overall, women experience either backlash or judgment when wearing makeup and have more genuine encounters without makeup.

The world of cosmetics is a safe environment where people of different genders and cultures can be creative while exploring their confidence.  For many people, makeup is their easiest way to express their emotions.  It is an integral part of so many people’s lives. Certain groups may have opposing stances on makeup, but at the end of the day, they’re just opinions.  People should be allowed to do whatever they wish to when it comes to self expression.  However, learning how to be yourself and still be confident without this dependency on makeup should also be a prioritized solution.
