Back To School Bathroom Changes
There are a lot of new changes to Harborfields Highschool this year due to the pandemic, students and staff all wear masks, socially distance and work from home some days. One big change to the school itself are the bathrooms. Last year there could be up to ten people in the bathroom at one time but this year only one person is allowed at a time. Students also have to scan a barcode or sign in to use the bathroom.
These significant changes have both a positive and negative impact on the students. One positive is that it will be easier to contact trace if a kid comes in contact or positive with the virus. These changes also have a negative effect on the students, it takes longer to use the bathroom because of the wait.
Senior Brenna Dorsam stated, “The bathroom changes are a big adjustment especially for seniors who have been here for three years, you get used to the way things are. It also makes it a lot harder to use the bathroom in between classes if you have to wait for someone.”
Should the teachers let kids be late to class? Some teachers tell their students to use the bathroom before class and since only one person is allowed at a time should passing time be longer? Another negative impact is it takes even more time away from class, if the teachers do allow kids to leave during class they are missing class time if someone is already in there.
Overall, the school is doing what they can to keep the students and staff safe and whether or not the students like it is the best for the well being for everyone.
