Senior Sunrise

The class of 2021 has experienced a senior year like no other generation. With the cancellation of many events such as homecoming, pep rally, and more, the seniors are very let down with the outcome of this crazy year. The pandemic has affected schools across the nation and Harborfields has been trying its best to make this year as fun as possible.

On October 23, the class of 2021 put together the first ever senior sunrise at Harborfields. This is an event many other schools have done in the past where the seniors wake up early in the morning and enjoy the sunrise together on the football field. They have snacks and drinks while bonding together.

Even though our senior sunrise had to follow the many protocols of Covid-19, many students thought the event to be a huge success. The seniors from both cohorts gathered together at 6:50am, and got the chance to have something special for their class. Senior Maya Salzman said, “I was really glad that we got to have a senior sunrise because I got to see my friends from the other cohort and it was something fun and safe to do during Covid.”

The morning of the sunrise was a very gloomy, cloudy day. The sky was dark, yet the positive energy created by all of the students was unmatched. Senior Eva Pukke stated, “Although there was no real sunrise at the event, I was still glad there was something for our grade to look forward to. With all the cancellations of huge events this year, I thought the sunrise was a great idea while still following the protocols.”

Another senior, Amanda Quenneville, spoke about what she thought of the occasion. “I was so happy that our class was able to celebrate all together. Even though it was no homecoming or pep rally, it was something that me and my friends got to celebrate all together. I’m glad our grade had something positive that we could look forward to, considering this is the year we have been waiting for our whole academic careers.”

The class of 2021 will try their best to make the most of their senior year. The senior sunrise will hopefully be a new tradition here at Harborfields High School for many years to come.
