Long Island’s Best Young Artists At The Heckscher Museum 2021
COVID-19 has made this year very different from when we first expected it to be but that won’t stop the students at Harborfields! The Heckscher Museum is setting up their annual Long Island’s Best art exhibition for young artists in high school from grades 9 through 12.
It gives high schoolers an opportunity to show their work in a museum, or on the museum’s website depending on if the exhibit will be virtual the next year. Fortunately this will become the 25th year of the exhibit in the museum! The inspiration for the next year's artwork comes from the former year's exhibit.
Approximately 80 pieces of art from high schools in Nassau and Suffolk counties are chosen for display for this exhibit. This means the competition for a spot is very tight, as in only one former high school senior got their work into the art show.
All types of art including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, photography, computer graphics, sculpture, mixed media, fashion, and video artwork may be submitted. Digital artist and high school junior Gabriella Bianco says, “I’d be pretty thrilled if I had the chance to show my art in a museum. I would like to become a more well known artist in my community.” She uses a computer and her Wacom tablet for all of her digital work and she hopes to be chosen for this exhibit next year.
Also make sure to check out the 2019-2020 exhibition display so that maybe you could feel inspired to make a wonderful piece of work on your own! The exhibition is available online for now so make sure to check it out when you can! The 2021 exhibit will be either online or in person at the museum from April 17th to May 23rd 2021 as of now.
