Will we ever go back to normal?

We’ve all spent the last six months watching the world unfold in front of us. COVID-19 has affected everyone in the world in some way. No one knew if we’d end up back in high school ever again. Luckily we get to come back to school, but we are unlucky in so many ways.

For seniors like me, the year is destroyed in so many ways. Starting with the fact that our grade can’t all be together in our last year at Harborfields after spending twelve years together, and just when you think it won’t get worse, our lunchroom went from tables of twenty kids to single desks six feet apart.

Lunch was a time during the day where students could relax with their friends, and enjoy time away from the classroom. That was taken away from us this year. Now we have separated desks and can only walk in certain directions throughout the cafeteria and the school. While we are all happy to be back in school, nothing is the same and lunch is something I think we all took for granted these past three years.

I never thought I’d want to sit on one of those uncomfortable wooden rolling tables as much as I do today. I know I speak for most of the students in school when I say how much I want things to go back to normal. Adelaide Kline has said, “from what I’ve heard lunch is way different than it used to be. Instead of sitting at tables with friends at lunch, now you have to eat at socially distanced desks.”  Hopefully at some point this year we can get back to normal in some way, maybe starting with being able to have tables during lunch again.
