Halloween During a Pandemic
Halloween, the one day a year everyone gets to dress up in any costume while walking around neighborhoods yelling “trick-or treat”, carving pumpkins, going to haunted houses, and corn mazes. Although this is what typically occurs during Halloween, October 31st 2020 may be quite different.
With the pandemic in place, many normal festivities throughout the fall will be non-existent, or at least very different. Nobody has seen something quite like this, we are all going through this difficult year together. Many people say that Halloween is cancelled this year, yet there are many things we can do that are fun and safe.
Here at Harborfields, safe Halloween is a huge hit. High school students decorate the halls and dress up while handing kids candy. If this wasn’t happening this year, I’m sure it would be a huge let down. To still have a Safe Halloween, Amanda Quenneville, a student at the High School proposed the idea for, “The school to spread the event over two or three days, that way there would be less people in one confined area while also remaining 6 feet apart from one another.” Ally Puccio, also a student at Harborfields High School says, “I believe safe Halloween can still be fun, even with safety protocols. We are all in this together.”
Trick-or-treating is another obstacle that has to be changed this year. Some people came up with the idea of collecting candy in a drive through manner with their cars. “People can drive around different neighborhoods, while collecting candy. This way kids can still get their delicious treats while socially distancing” says Abby Lindkvist.
Although this year's Halloween will be a lot different than the past, we can still do most of the traditional activities, just modified.
