“Spirit Week Speculation”

School is back in full swing at Harborfields High School, which means so are sports. Homecoming is one of the highlights of the fall season at the school as well as the events leading up to it. The week leading up to homecoming is the well-known first Spirit Week of the year!

Spirit Week is a way for the students and faculty at HF to come together and show their school spirit. School spirit only gets higher as the week goes on because of the Pep Rally and eventually the Homecoming game!

A popular question that is always asked leading up to spirit week is “What are the spirit days?” There is always a huge conversation throughout the school of what students want the spirit days to be and what they don’t. One of the most popular spirit days during this week is Class Shirt Day, so it is likely that it will be in the lineup this year. Other pretty popular spirit days in the past are Pajama Day and HF Apparel Day.

When asked what spirit days he would like to see this year, senior Kieran Motherway had some interesting things to say. “Personally, I think Pajama Day is a must.” He would love to come to school in comfy clothes like that. On the contrary, he also suggested “Fancy Day”, where people would come to school in dresses and suits.

The most creative idea that Kieran wants to see during this year's first spirit week is “Gender Swap Day”, where boys would come dressed in more feminine clothing and girls would come dressed in more masculine clothing. This day could give people a chance to express themselves more openly and freely. He wants to see spirit days that are more out of the ordinary and not so basic.

Spirit Week is a week when the whole school can come together and show school spirit. Students are excited for the first one this year and feel that it makes everything a little more normal in the times that we are living in. Everyone is just anxious to know what the days are. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
