New Staff: Adjustment into a Wonderful Year
In total the Harborfields Central School District has hired about 29 new staff members, from new teachers and administration. Two new teachers at the high school level include Mrs. Beal and Mrs. Szabo and one positive thing is that all their classes are now held in person!
Mrs. Szabo was originally a student teacher at the high school and was delighted to come back as the substitute photography and studio art teacher. She has high hopes for the upcoming year and is making sure everyone is following the correct procedures and changing guidelines. She adds that, “Virtual learning was tough and I don’t think it’s the way of the future that most people think it is.”
Mrs. Szabo will only be a substitute until Mrs. Rottkamp comes back from maternity leave, around early October. She is determined to make her classes fun and interesting for her students at the beginning of the year. With such a welcoming community it can really help the teachers find what works with their lesson planning and with their students.
New career awareness and college accounting teacher, Mrs. Beal has always had a passion for business and passes on that passion to her students. She feels very welcomed into the school and says that, “It is obvious that the community takes care of their own… I have felt extremely welcomed by all, which has truly helped the transition with my new position.”
Junior Kylee Gerrety has also enjoyed being in-person with her new teachers this new school year. She says that it is so much, “easier for the teachers to get their points across to the students.” While the new staff adjust and get comfortable with their scheduling and lesson plans, the students are also adapting to the new ways in this new year.
It is always nice to give them a warm welcome and say hello to them in the hallways and make sure to be patient with them. With a new and exciting year ahead, it is good to see smiley faces (or eyes) in the classrooms once again.
