K-Pop Demon Hunters, a Global Phenomenon that Sparked in 2025

Ever hear that one really popular song on the radio? It’s got a strong rhythm and almost sounds like you’re at a concert? Well that’s Golden for you. 

For the past six months, the hit movie, K-pop Demon Hunters has become a global phenomenon through so many different media platforms.  The film was released on June 20, 2025 streaming on Netflix and it was shattering records on the most-watched film of all time in all of Netflix history with 236 million views in just 10 weeks. Now you might be wondering, “It’s just some regular old kids movie, what’s the hype?” Well here’s this, the music. 

Film creator Maggie Kang tells Time how “K pop Demon Hunters became the summer’s biggest hit.” 

Both Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans sparked individuals throughout the world with the memorable tunes that you hear today with songs like, Golden, Soda Pop, and many more songs released on this movie soundtrack. The creators executed this movie perfectly by combining fantasy and pop together to create this global sensation. 

The film has received multiple nominations for various awards including one for the 2026 Grammy Awards for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. The movie is also set to be an eligible Oscar nominee on January 22, 2026.  The public has reacted to K-Pop Demon Hunters with widespread acclaim and as it may be observed, this new global phenomenon isn’t fading away anytime soon. 

HF Students, Vivienne Papaleo and Aidan Hohne both give feedback on the film. Aidan Hohne states, “The movie was a global hit and the internet was full of content of the film.” Vivienne Papaleo exclaims “It is such a lovely film, I quite enjoyed it.”
