Sudan factory fire killing 15 people
In recent news, an estimated minimum of 15 people were killed after an accidental fire catalyzed an explosion at a factory in northern Khartoum on Tuesday. With the estimated number of people killed, dozens were also injured and among these dozens many are in critical conditions.
More than 90 people were wounded in this fire and were rushed to several hospitals in the capital for intense treatments as reported by the Central Committee of Sudan Doctors. When interviewing, Allison Brown, she said, “Fires like these urge for a great amount of support from paramedics, rescue groups and hospitals.”
With the immediate rush of victims to these hospitals, the doctors had to call many of their colleagues that were off-duty for immediate help and backup. The Central Committee of Sudan Doctors with other health workers enforced a preparation for more casualties as the victims were evacuated from the scene of the fire. Junior, Ellie Lockwood said, “The hospitals must have been overflowing with victims from this accident.”
Thanks to technology, video footage that was shared on social media showed the intensity of the fire. These videos captured the fire and black smoke that was flowing outward from the factory located in the industrial area in Sudan. Because this fire had a billowing effect it had a great effect on so many people that lived close by to the industrial area, sending so many victims to the hospital in critical conditions. Junior, Kieran Tully said, “It’s crazy how much one fire can affect so many people's lives.” Thankfully, many paramedics and rescue workers rushed to the scene in search of victims and worked to put out the chaotic fire.
