How Can You Vote During the Coronavirus?

Most of us at Harborfields are not able to vote yet but with the right info you can become a voter yourself in the future and let your parents know how to use their voice. In Suffolk County alone there are 336 polling places which are going to be constantly disinfected as people are going to be handing in ballots.

There are also 12 early voting locations too which are open from October 24th through November 1st. You cannot vote again on November 3rd after going to an early voting location, so there is only one chance to hand in a vote.

If you are 18 or over, you must make sure you’re registered! Since early voting started this weekend people are trying to make sure their vote is secured. Next weekend these locations are open from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

During the next seven days the polling places will be open so that you can cast your vote. On Thursday the 29th they are open from 8:00am to 4:00pm. On Friday the 30th the locations are open from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

Absentee voting is permitted but the postal service recommends people to not send their ballots 15 days before the election, which by now is too late so make sure you or your parents can come in person! In New York State people can also vote for the Justice of the Supreme Court, Judges, Representatives in Congress, State Senators, and the Members of the Assembly. Along with some smaller positions such as Town Justices.

Voting is important for the country as a whole and helps to let your voice be heard in the country, if you cannot vote now make sure you vote in the 2024 Presidential Election. Mr Greening, an AP US History teacher, notes that when you vote, “you get to voice your opinion when representatives make crucial decisions about your schooling and health care. If you don’t go out to vote it’s difficult for your opinion to be heard through your elected officials!” Make a difference in your community so that we will be able to have a better future.
