Restaurants Answer to Surviving the Winter Months during the Pandemic
How are our local restaurants going to make it through the winter months as the COVID-19 quarantine guidelines for restaurants remain in effect? Restaurant owners have been getting creative in order for their businesses to survive.
While walking down main street Huntington Village, these pop up clear bubbles, or igloos, seem to be growing in numbers as we get closer to the cooler months ahead. Dressing for weather is not so difficult during the fall, however, once the temperatures drop more, restaurant owners need a plan.
These bubbles, called space bubbles or igloos, are the answer the owners are looking for. They will help protect from rain, snow, and cold weather. While celebrating a birthday with a student from Harborfields High School, Jack Dorsam, he said, “This was actually a really cool thing to have outside of a restaurant and it made sure that we were still social distancing.” The bubbles are at least six feet apart and can accommodate two, four, six, or eight people.
When asked why he could not put up a tent, owner Daniel Pedisich said, “We are working closely with the town to be able to stay afloat during this pandemic. Without a big parking lot, these plastic dining igloos were our only option.”
If they can make it to the spring, they will have hope that their dream to operate their Croatian restaurant will remain alive. “I think these will really help restaurants attract customers and also stay warm and safe during winter.”, says Brooke Buda student at Harborfields High School.
Also, another student that attends Harborfields High School, Dean Bouchard, says “I am glad that the owners of local restaurants came up with an idea, and decided to be creative and use these plastic bubbles for outdoor dining.”
