What Will the New Year Bring?

As we approach this winter break, this vacation, there are many mixed emotions.

A lot of us feel relief. Relief that this exhausting and extremely challenging year has come to an end. Relief that in the face of challenge and hardships we made it through.

On the other hand, many of us are scared. This new year has us wondering if it could be any worse than 2020. It will be pretty hard to beat, but I would not doubt it. If I have learned one thing this year, it is that it can always get worse. This past year we were hit with punch after punch, trying to swerve out of the way and even when it was bad, it continued to get worse. It even continues to get worse to this day. COVID-19 is still sweeping across the country and this upcoming holiday week will only make it worse.

The new year always reminds us to be better people and strive for personal goals for the future. However, after this year I am not so sure if that will be the case. With this packed year I feel it will be harder for people to focus on their own individual goals. This isn't even necessarily a bad thing. The focus is hopefully going to be on worrying about the virus and staying safe. I just believe that after the year we had, the transition into the new year will be different than any other year we've gone into.

2020 was hard and the COVID-19 surges have affected us all, directly or indirectly. But the hopeful and wishful thinking holds 2021 to certain expectations of being this golden year, a comeback year from corona and even the rollercoaster of the election. And I just hope it lives up to its hype and expectations.

Hopefully this type of thought process will play a role in our upcoming new year, but in reality we have people still going out maskless and contracting the virus- whether it isthrough partying or close friends- it still remains to be a huge problem.

As we go into 2021, it will be nothing but an adjustment to say the least. Senior, Isaiah Headley stated, ¨I for one would love if school sports came back into question when hope for the athletic season starts to look more promising. As Well as the sliver of gain back from the vaccine and store bought tests without prescription releasing in 2021 pushes people to anticipate this new year.” So clearly, the hopes are very high and people feel very optimistic for what is to come.
