22 people dead in an armed man shooting in the English-speaking region of Cameroon

In recent news, approximately 22 people were killed during an armed man shooting in the English-speaking region of Cameroon. Among these 22 people, 14 being young children with their whole lives ahead of them. The attack was said to have occurred in a northwestern village in Cameroon this past Friday.

The number of residents that have been injured is still unspecified, it is predicted that at least 600 villagers have fled their homes since the attack. Many people lost their family members as security forces searched for separatists burning many houses in this village. While talking to Junior Kieran Tully about this shooting, he said, “There is so much violence constantly occurring around the world, there must be an end to it.”

The military gave no sympathy to the inhabitants of these houses and torched them in the middle of the night, while the villagers were sleeping. Many people burned to death because the military suspected these villagers to have separatists fighters hiding in their homes. The death toll since Friday’s attack has continued to rise, people are searching for human rights. Junior, Allison Brown made an important point saying, “Once an attack like this occurs death tolls will continue to rise and violence will continue until they find a meaningful solution.” Many Cameroonian activists are fighting for rights from the Center for Human Rights and Democracy.  Junior Allie Kennedy, stated, “ I can’t imagine going to sleep one night and finding 22 people killed in my town the next day.”

The military officers who are responsible for killing all these innocent villagers should be punished for these abominable crimes. No one should have to live in fear wondering if they will die in their sleep just like their family did one day in this small village. This fighting between the Separatists in these English-speaking regions of Cameroon have been reoccurring with government-backed militias for several years now and must be stopped.
