2021 is Here, Does it Feel Different?

Going into the New Year I'm sure many had the mindset of having everything be better than the last year. But now in 2021, I'm wondering if this year will be better? It's the inevitable question, while entering into a new year with a fresh start, but it shouldn't determine the future of this new year. Thinking in terms of new year's resolutions, many people did make them and plan to accomplish them. But many decided to not set huge expectations, due to the way last year planned out.

Personally for me I didn't set any New Year's resolutions, but it is a great thing to try and challenge yourself. To exercise a habit regularly is definitely something great to practice, but with the way things have been there may have been enough challenge brought upon us in 2020.

Has 2021 felt any different then the last? This is a question that can be answered in many different ways, due to the fact that everyone expects things to be different due to a new year starting but that's not always the way it goes.

While talking to a student at Harborfields, a Junior, Grace Esposito, about how it felt going into the new year, she gave her perspective on this in which I agreed. She stated, “It felt boring. Nothing really changed. I know I'm in a pandemic and I still really can’t do much this year”. This I agree with since it didn’t feel very different to me and other people I know as well due to the times we're living in now. Everything seems to be feeling more positive due to getting out of 2020, which is a good thing but nothing has exactly changed.

Thinking about how this year started off, it was pretty good for me considering the circumstances of COVID-19 making new years a smaller event. Grace Esposito stated her opinion saying, “It started out pretty well, surrounded by friends and family. I personally didn't feel a difference in the change of the new year. This year, feels like every holiday is so insignificant.” This is a great point, but I think with the virus, it made us appreciate the small things and to be more grateful for everything we have including family and friends since some don't have that support starting off 2021.
