Change and Continued Action (Editorial)

We all know that America has been facing mass shootings for awhile now. It often seems like there will be no end to it, due to the fact that there is no enforcement for stopping this violence. There has to be an end to this culture of violence because none of this is normal. Senior Allison Brown stated, “The violence we have seen this year alone must stop.”

Now that America is at the end of the trial of George Floyd’s death it is necessary to face this violence and enforce rules that will help us move forward more successfully. Luckily the world is slowly moving towards Justice as Derek Chauvin, former officer was found guilty in the George Floyd case. Chauvin was charged with second- degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in George Floyd’s death. Justice in this case happened and that is something to be grateful for.Senior Lizzie Kennedy stated that, “The failure to keep citizens safe is an important issue that must be addressed.”

While there have been an increased of efforts at local levels, the usual outcome at moments like this is political paralysis as Washington -- where national polarization is institutionalized -- fails to produce even minimal reforms to law enforcement or gun safety. Senior Ciana Massaria stated that, “It is crazy that there isn't more law enforcement in gun control.”
