The Netflix film We Can Be Heroes trailer dropped on Friday, November 20, 2020. Characters from the iconic Sharkboy and Lavagirl movie are coming back...as parents. Robert Rodriguez, who directed Sharkboy and Lavagirl as well as Spy Kids, takes on the director role of this new movie focusing on the children of the superheroes.

Sharkboy and Lavagirl were played by Taylor Lautner and Taylor Dooley as child actors. Dooley, now 27, will return as the beloved Lavagirl however, Lautner is not. JJ Dashnaw will take the role of Sharkboy. The characters are now parents with a daughter named Guppy portrayed by Vivien Lyra Blair.

The movie will feature 11 superhero children who embark on a journey to save their parents from alien invasion while also managing their superpowers. Director Robert Rodriquez said the movie is, “...like an Avengers team but they all have kids. The kids have powers but they don’t know how to use them because they’re just so young."

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has a role in the movie as the kid’s government babysitter that they attempt to escape from in order to save their parents.

Rodriguez said he received a lot of suggestions about creating a new movie during the COVID-19 pandemic, “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot Spy Kids.’ ‘Reboot Sharkboy.’ Of course they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.” This inspired him to bring the movie focusing on the children of the iconic superheroes to life.

Taylor Dooley took to Instagram to say, “Gosh, filming this movie was such a wonderful experience. Stepping back into the Lavagirl suit and having hot pink hair again gave me ALL THE FEELS. Working with Robert Rodriguez again was a dream and the entire cast is AMAZING.”

Some of the heroic children in the movie are, YaYa Gosselin as Missy, Isaiah Russell-Bailey as Rewind, Akira Akbar as Fast Forward, Hala Finley as Ojo, and Dylan Henry Lau as Slo-Mo.

Some other actors set to make an appearance are, Christopher McDonald, Adriana Barraza, Lyon Daniels, Nathan Blair, Lotus Blossom, Andy Walken, Andrew Diaz, Sung Kang, Haley Reinhart, J. Quinton Johnson, Brittany Perry-Russell, and Brently Heilbron.

We Can Be Heroes streams on Netflix on January 1st, 2021.
