The Future of Bridgerton

At the end of 2020, Bridgerton took Netflix by storm, streaming in over 63 million households within it’s first 28 days. Audiences loved the fictional period piece centered around the story of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset. The show exercises the popular “let's pretend we’re dating due to a mutual benefit but we actually end up falling in love” troupe that attracted many viewers. With a beautiful wardrobe, classy dances, and also a fair share of steamy scenes, Bridgerton was a recipe for success. It’s no surprise that the show was almost immediately renewed for a second season. However, the actor who played Simon Basset, Regé-Jean Page, also announced that he would not be returning to Bridgerton at all regardless of Netflix’s many attempts to make him stay. Many fans were initially worried about what direction the show was going to take but despite all this, it has just been announced that Bridgerton has already been approved for a season 3 and 4. It seems as though the current plan for the continuation of Bridgerton is to focus on different characters and relationships each season. Senior Jenna Forestiero says, “In all truth the story of Daphne and Simon concluded with the end of Bridgertons first season. I think if they continued the show based on them it would have become boring really fast. Though I would love some guest appearances!” This move by Netflix allows us to stay in a universe we know and love while expanding on characters we already have an attachment to. The world of Bridgerton has a lot of potential and we’re very hopeful for the future of the series!
