Paramount is Getting its Own Streaming Service
Over the last couple of years, many companies have turned to create their own individual streaming services. While each streaming service has a great number of shows and movies, there are two main incentives that push people to buy yet another service. One is having popular content from over the years, for example, Friends being on HBO Max and The Office being on the streaming service, Peacock. The second incentive is their promise for original content. This can be seen clearly with Disney+ and the over two dozen original shows and movies they have announced for the upcoming years (for more information about what’s coming to Disney+ click here). Similarly, many of the services like to reach the nostalgic sides of viewers to confirm this purchase. To keep people excited about Netflix, they announced a Live-Action Avatar the Last Airbender series. On HBO Max, they have a Game of Thrones Spin-Off in the works, and even Amazon Prime has a Lord of the Rings Original Series in production!
So of course it’s of no surprise when Paramount announced that they would be creating their own service, Paramount+. The streaming service is set to release on March 4, 2021, and is expected to have around 8-9 million subscribers. The service is an expansion of CBS All Access and will include content from other channels like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, and the Smithsonian Channel! Now, Paramount+ will be the home to popular franchises like Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Spongebob Squarepants, The Legend of Korra and so much more. Additionally, the service will be continuing to stream sports as it has done in the past. On top of this, Paramount+ is also creating some original content, which includes a 10-episode miniseries about the making of The Godfather called The Offer and a revival of the popular 2014 sitcom, The Game!
Senior Sophia DiPrima says, “I’m looking forward to this service, particularly the part with Nickelodeon– I hope they include some TeenNick shows as well because I would love to rewatch those again!” While the cost for the service has not yet been released, with CBS All Access costing $5.99 a month and $9.99 for ad-free– it’s expected that Paramount+ will be around the same. Overall the response to this news has been very positive, and many people are excited for a chance to watch what Paramount+ has to offer!
