The New High School Musical Series is Exactly What We’ve Been Looking For

Disney+ has finally arrived and with it comes several new shows for us to get lost in! One of these shows the highly anticipated High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Many of the fans of the original series (like myself) were skeptical of the new series. A lot of fans feared that it would be either a remake of the originals (which can never be done because the originals are perfect) or a continuation. Neither of which a lot of fans wanted.

Though Disney knew this and created something different that is pleasing to both old fans and new! After seeing the trailer that came out in August I was very excited. It’s almost like Glee and High School Musical had a baby, and it’s beautiful. The show is done almost like a documentary series and its as if the characters were students at the school where High School Musical was shot. It’s a completely different take on the beloved series and so far I really like how it's turning out. Junior Jenna Forestiero says, “It’s actually a lot better than I thought it would be, I was very against it at first but after watching the first episode I’m already hooked.”

The first episode came out on November 12th and w o w, it really came with a bang! First off the drama is done very tastefully, enough where its captivating but not too much where it becomes convoluted. It also includes something that many people (including myself) are a sucker for: SINGING. Not only does it include songs from the original series but there are also new songs being added that really add another layer to the show. Hearing the new characters singing some of the most famous songs from my childhood is really refreshing to hear, this cast really supports some beautiful voices!

My favorite so far is the voice of Rickey Dowen played by actor Joshua Bassett, he played guitar too, it was amazing!! Student Madeylnn Murray says, “When Ricky started singing I got CHILLS! Once I finished the episode I rewatched that scene three times, it was sooo good!”

Unfortunately for me and my usual binge watching mentality, the episodes are being released weekly instead of all at once, so Fridays will now be my designated High School Musical days because there is nothing else I’d rather waste my time doing. Though if you are looking for a new show to watch I would definitely recommend. I’ve gotten some of my friends on board to watch it so you should too! My best friend Sophia DiPrima says, “Based on what I’ve heard I think I’m going to start watching, it reminds me a lot of Glee and I’m excited.
