Lamar Jackson: Is He The MVP?

Lamar Jackson is in just his second year in the NFL. Jackson is the starting Quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, taking over for longtime franchise QB Joe Flacco on November 18th, 2018 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was 6-1 in the games he started in last season. as well as the youngest quarterback to start in an NFL playoff game, as Baltimore won the AFC North. People doubted that Lamar could be a successful quarterback in the NFL but from just 7 games he proved some wrong.

From the start of the 2019 season people debated on how successful Jackson would be for the Ravens this year. Right out of the gate, Lamar threw for 324 yards and 5 TDs. This surprised most people because they didn’t expect Jackson to do most of his damage with his arm. Many people before this season criticized Jackson as being more of a running back than a quarterback.

He definitely is proving people wrong having thrown for 2,532 yards and 25 TD’s, and is on pace to break Michael Vick’s QB rushing record with 977 rush yards before Week 14. He has embarrassed defenders with his crazy juke moves and lightning speed.

Most recently Lamar and the Ravens defeated the NFL’s top team the San Francisco 49ers. Jackson threw for 105 yards and 1 TD.  He also had 101 rushing yards and 1 TD. The Ravens beat the Niners 20-17.

Lamar Jackson is the top candidate right now for the NFL MVP award.  His amazing performance this season could be one for the history books. Currently, Jackson and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson are contending for the league’s top honor. Wilson puts up strong competition but if Jackson keeps up with a few more incredible performances, he for sure will become the 2019 NFL MVP.
