Giants at Eagles Monday Night Recap
The New York Giants took on the Philadelphia Eagles last night for Monday Night Football. With Rookie Quarterback Daniel Jones out suffering from a high ankle sprain, two time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning got the start. Eli hadn’t started a game in 10 weeks since he was replaced by Danny Dimes.
With Eli getting the start, it had all Giants fans excited to see what their old QB1 could do. With the Eagles coming off a tough loss to one of the NFL’s worst teams the Giants were optimistic that they can come away with a win.
In the first quarter both teams defenses got off to a good start with the Giants and the Eagles forcing each other to punt on their first drives. On the Eagles second drive the Giants forced a fumble but could not take advantage and were forced to punt. The Eagles then punted again giving the Giants back the ball. Eli Manning threw for 45 yards on a scoring drive that resulted in a 35 yard pass to Darius Slayton for a Touchdown to give the Giants a 7-0 lead. When the Eagles got the ball back they marched down 69 yards and managed to kick a 34 yard field goal by kicker Jake Elliott cutting the lead to 4.
The Giants then matched that by gaining 59 yards and kicking a 34 yard field goal by kicker Aldrick Rosas bringing the Giants lead back up to 7. The Defenses went back and forth again for most of the second quarter. With a 1:46 left to go the Eli and the Giants marched down the field. Saquon Barkley with a couple of solid runs put the Giants in a better position to score. Then Eli lobbed up a perfect pass to Darius Slayton for a 55 yard Touchdown. This was both Eli and Slayton’s second touchdown of the game. The Giants then took a commanding lead of 17-3.
After 5 consecutive punts to start the first quarter the Eagles finally got their first touchdown on a 2 yard run by Boston Scott cutting the Giant lead back down to 7. It seemed as if the Giants could not get anything going as they punted 6 times during the second half.
The Eagles scored once again on a Carson Wentz touchdown pass to TE Zach Ertz. to tie the game at 17. The Giants has 2 chances to score again but they punted both times. The game went into OT and the Eagles won the toss and got the ball first. Wentz once again connected to Ertz for another 2 yard touchdown winning them the game and keeping them in the playoff conversation. Although it was a loss for the Giants there were many positives. Eli Manning threw for 203 yards for 2 TD’s, and WR Daruis Slayton had 5 receptions for 154 yards and 2 TDs. However, it is another L for Big Blue in a season of not many Ws.
