Super Bowl LIV Recap
This Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers in Miami for Super Bowl LIV. The Chiefs had a very explosive season with a record of 12 wins and 4 losses. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a very strong season throwing for 4031 yards and 26 touchdowns. He had major weapons with his strong receivers like Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman. He also had one of the best TE in the NFL with Travis Kelce. The Chiefs had won every game this postseason by comeback fashion. They hoped to do the same on Sunday.
On the other side the San Francisco 49ers were arguably the best team in the NFL this year. They had a record of 13 wins and 3 losses. They were led out by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo, who used to be behind future hall of famer Tom Brady, had a very good year throwing for 3978 yards and 27 touchdowns. He had a major target in tight end George Kittle. Kittle has made a huge contribution to the team with 5 touchdowns and over 1000 yards. He also had receiver Deebo Samuel, and running backs Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert.
The game started off with the 49ers seeming like they were taking over. They shut down Mahomes and the offense for most of the first half. The San Francisco offense also was hot being led by Kittle, Samuel, and Garoppolo. They had a 10 point lead over the Chiefs in the 4th quarter. When playing against Patrick Mahomes if he gets hot he is basically unstoppable. All it took was a long pass down the field to the speedy Tyreek Hill and the Chiefs offense was rolling. They came back in the 4th quarter with 6 minutes and 13 second remaining to win the game 31-20.
Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP making him the youngest player to ever be a Super Bowl MVP. He had 286 passing yards with 2 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Other key players in the game were Travis Kelce with a touchdown reception,Tyreek Hill with 105 yards, and Damian Williams with 104 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
This was the Chiefs first Super Bowl win in 50 years. It was also the first Super Bowl win for coach Andy Reed. Jonathan Osmun stated, “This was a very exciting game and fun to watch.”
