MLB Season Update
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the MLB season has been on hold. For MLB fans some good news is here. There has been a plan set out for what the 2020 season could look like starting in the next month or two.
Spring training for the season would start around mid to early June. This would be for players to get the rust off and to prepare for a shorter season. Normally Spring training would start in February but the virus hit just as they were getting started.
If all is well then the actual regular season would begin around July 4th. It would be an 82 game regular season that would consist mostly of teams competing against their division and counterparts. For example it would be the AL East would play each other as well and the NL East would play each other, but teams in the AL East would also be allowed to play against the NL East.
There will also be a variation of how the game is played. The designated hitter who is usually only in the American League will not be in the Nationally League as well. Teams will be playing in their home ballparks without fans. If it is achievable for the teams to play at their own ballparks then they will be allowed to continue playing at their spring training fields.
The All-Star game will most likely not happen because it is a shortened season. It is a tradition and it is sad to see it not happening but at least fans will get to see their favorite teams hit the field. The post season on the other hand is a little different than usual. It will include 14 teams instead of 10 because they are adding two more Wild Card teams to each league.
Although this is not the ideal baseball season fans want it is the best that the MLB could do. Student Ryan Sullivan said, “ I am at least happy that I will get to see the Yankees out of the field at some point this year”.
