Over the last decade baseball has had many powerhouse teams emerge and dominate for a couple of years. Some examples of this are the Dodgers or the Astros who have visited the playoffs many times over the last couple of years and have won many World Series. But will the Mets be the next big baseball team?

This year the Mets started off the season 0-5 and continued to lose throughout the beginning of the year eventually leading to a 24-35 record. Gary Cohen, the Mets announcer even said that the team was at rock bottom. But then one night in July the Mets brought out Grimace for the first pitch at one of their games. This then marked the flipping point of the Mets season. They went on a 7 game winning streak after that pitch and ever since have had the best record in baseball. Their star player Fransisco Lindor has had one of his best seasons ever.

The Mets then headed into the playoffs where they faced the NL Central Champions the Brewers. The Mets won the first game but then lost the second game. It all came down to the Third game where the Mets were down in the Top of the 9th facing elimination but then Pete Alonso came up to Bat and Homered winning the Game. They then went on to beat the Phillies 3-1 to advance to the NLCS which they unfortunately lost to the Dodgers.

This Historical Run established the Mets as one of the best teams in Baseball and shows just how much spirit this Mets team has and how much clutch power they have. Their Manager Carlos Mendoza has also found many innovative ways to help the Mets win with their pitching staff.

According to ESPN the Mets payroll is around 160 million so they can make many big signings. The Mets are also expected to make some big moves this offseason such as signing Juan Soto for his hitting power and signing Pitchers such as Max Fried and Blake Snell. If the Mets can seal these deals for the next season they are going to be a serious World Series contender for next year. I asked a freshman, Logan Levine, who said, “I think the Mets can win the World Series next season, especially if they sign Juan Soto. If the Mets can make all these offseason signings they might just be the next big baseball powerhouse.
