PS4 Discontinued In Japan

On January 3, 2021 a Japanese retailer said on Twitter, “Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked: PS4 500GB Glacier White, PS4 1TB Jet Black, PS4 1TB Glacier White, PS4 2TB Jet Black, and the PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White.”

The PS5 recently came out in November 2020 and has been very difficult for many people to buy. They have sold out like crazy everywhere. With this, there has also been a shortage in PS4 consoles. On January 6, 2021, GameWatch, a Japanese gaming outlet announced that Sony has officially discontinued the PS4 in Japan. GameWatch also said that all PS4 models have been sold. This means that the PS4 will longer be available online or at retail.

Tom Pritchard, a writer for Tom’s Guide, wrote, “Only the 500GB PS4 Slim will remain in production as Sony Japan pivots its attention to the PS5. That means all other PS4 models, including the PS4 Pro, have been discontinued with no new stock on the way.” This is devastating news for many gamers in Japan.

The PS4 has reportedly been discontinued because the PS5 wasn’t selling well in Japan. Many people in Japan have been just using the PS4, so in order to get people to buy the PS5, Sony discontinued the PS4. There is still no news on what will happen to the PS4 outside of Japan.
