Harborfields Tornadoes Men's Lacrosse Preview 2025
As the 2025 spring season is upon us, the Harborfields Boys Lacrosse team is looking to make the playoffs again in the upcoming season. In the last 6 years dating back to 2018, the Tornados have made the big dance in 5 of their last 6 seasons. Once again, Harborfields lacrosse is projected to be a top seed in their division and is poised to make a big playoff run.
The Tornadoes have a great coaching staff which is led by Head Coach, Ryan Conroy. Coach Conroy is entering his fourth year as head coach of the Harborfields Tornadoes. He has had great success as he has seen the playoffs in two of his three seasons as head coach. Offensive Coordinator Quintin McKenna is the wizard who runs the offense. This is Coach McKenna’s third year at the varsity level. On the defensive side of the ball is Coach Justin Shepherd who has conducted an amazing Harborfields defense for the past years.
In the 2024 season, Harborfields fell short in the playoffs, losing to Bayport in the Class C Semifinals by a score of 13-7. Although the Tornados graduated many of their key players from the 2024 season, there are lots of valuable returners.
Harborfields returns 4 of their starting 6 offensive guys for the 2025 season including Chase Ritcey, Chris Prainito, Colin Mcarthy, and Jack Weiss. Senior midfielder Chase Ritcey, the University of Scranton commit, led the team in points last season with 52 points.
Chase has been one of Harborfields’ main offensive weapons since his sophomore year. Not far behind Ritcey is Junior Attackman Chris Prainito, who finished last season with 43 points. Returning those two players is very important and helpful in order for a big year. Also, you cannot forget about the University of Massachusetts Amherst commit, Jack Weiss; he had 35 points last season as one of the best defensive midfielders in the country. There is a bunch of depth on the offensive side of the ball. Just to name a few, some players that are looking to step up this year and have a big role are Lance Droskoski, Vernon Bratton, Mason Larocco, Luca Garritano, and Francis Dipalo.
The Harborfields Tornadoes defense has been one of the best defenses in Suffolk County for the past decade. Despite the fact that the Tornadoes lost 5 of the 6 defensive guys, the depth of the defensive room will come into play this year. The head of the defense will be Senior Jake Coronato. The Bucknell University commit was out last year due to injury, but as a sophomore he was dominant and will be back and even better in his last season as a Tornado. Other defenders that will play a very big role this year are Riley Kast, Ryan Mcgay, Tyler Tom, James Piccarillo, Auggie Finkel, Dylan Kast and Tyler D'amico. Defending the cage will be senior Nick Schiliro. Schiliro will head to Connecticut College for lacrosse next season.
I got to sit down with some of the returning seniors on the team and asked them a couple questions on the upcoming season. When I asked some of them about the outlook on the season, they all were ecstatic and confident in the team. Senior defenseman Jake Coronato said, “We should have one of the better chances out of all the other teams in Suffolk County to win it all. The goal is to compete and bring back another county championship to Harborfields.” I also got to ask newcomer Ryan Olson on what he is looking forward to the most and joining the team. “I am most excited to become a part of such a tight-knit community and meet the coaching staff.” When speaking to Coach Quintin McKenna about the season, he said “The coaching staff is really excited to get the season going. We have a bunch of key players that have had playoff experience. We put in a lot of hard work in the offseason and have had a great 2 weeks of preseason leading into the first official day of the season”
Looking at the 2025 schedule, Harborfields does not have an easy schedule with very tough matchups. Teams like Comsewogue, East Islip, West Islip, Kings Park, and Smithtown West will give the Tornadoes a tough challenge this year. “In order to make a deep run in the playoffs, we are going to have to rise to the occasion and beat the top teams in the county”, said Head Coach Ryan Conroy.
The Tornados will open the season against Port Washington on Saturday, March 29th, as they will be going against the old head coach of the Harborfields Tornadoes, Glenn Lavey. Lavey coached Harborfields from 2013 to 2021 and is known as one of the best coaches in Harborfields history. Also important to note, Harborfields will be moving back up from Class C to Class B as they have been in Class C since 2021.
The Tornados are looking forward to the season and are excited to get to work to get to a championship. It is going to take everyone to get the job done, but the boys are certain that it can be done.
