Holiday Decorations in School
It’s no surprise that everyone's favorite time of year is right around the corner. The holidays are a time to gather with friends and family, showing your appreciation and love for one another. It is the season of giving back. Sadly, this holiday season will be very different than past years. Lots of families are not even celebrating with one another due to the risk of Covid-19.
With the worldwide pandemic, nobody has had to go through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years without some sort of celebration or gathering. This year will definitely be an obstacle for everyone.
School is a place where kids and teens learn to grow. It is where they spend most of their years learning and developing. Usually, Harborfields decorates for the holidays in the airport to spread some holiday cheer. With the hybrid learning system of this year, there should be even more holiday decorations.
Senior Megan Markowski says, “I think it would be a great idea to decorate the school for the holidays even earlier this year. This way, the staff and students have more time to enjoy the uplifting spirit for a longer period of time since we go in every other day.” Without the normal holiday festivities at the school such as the holiday volleyball tournament, battle of the grades, and bake sales, there is nothing to really look forward to.
Senior Maya Salzman said, “I hope we can still decorate the school and have holiday festivities even with the craziness of this year.” Decorating the halls is a safe and easy way to get everyone into the spirit. Students got the opportunity to decorate for spirit week in October which was a huge success. Students got the chance to sign up in small groups and got community service hours in return.
“The earlier the better when it comes to decorating the halls at Harborfields. I know it would definitely put a smile on everyone's face, which is important during these times of hardship” said senior Eva Pukke. Hopefully, this holiday season will still be fun and uplifting at school, even with the pandemic.
