Will the Tornadoes take home a win this Friday?

Once a season it is Haborfields’ tradition for the football team to play a night game, Friday Night Lights (FNL). Every year the team does multiple fundraisers to be able to afford the lights used at the game, making it an already special game, however this year it is even more exciting because it will be the first FNL game to be played on the new turf field and will be against  the Tornadoes rivals, the Eastport South Manor (ESM) sharks.

In the last HF vs. ESM game, it began with a big lead for Harborfields but it was almost lost in the 3rd and 4th quarters. However, Harbofields was able to pull it back together in the end and defeat Eastport with a score of 22-14. Will they be able to do it again? Coach Serie says “with ESM only having 20 players this season, we plan to run a high pace game” in hopes of wearing the other team out.

It has been a tough season for the HF Tornadoes so far, with their record of one win and three losses. However, the season is only halfway through and the Tornadoes are more confident than ever that this game will be different. Senior captain Dylan Wolf says “the team and I have been putting in the work at practice and we are determined to bring home a win for Harborfields''.

With the help of junior quarterback Shane Longin, Wolf is currently leading the team with 5 touchdowns and over 300 receiving yards this season. The remaining three senior captains, Anthony Kelly, Frankie Ciaramitaro, and Thomas Sullivan, lead the Tornados in tackles. As one of Newsday’s 100 top football players on Long Island, Anthony Kelly states, “I believe that our mental and physical toughness will lead us to victory over ESM”.

Sadly, the team suffered a big loss when junior player, Hunter Droskoski, unfortunately tore both his ACL and MCL. His teammates, coaches, and the whole school, wish him well in surgery and for a fast recovery.

Come and support the Tornado Football team this Friday October 15, 2021, at 6:30 pm,  and wish good luck to all the players and coaches!
