1.) Y2K
On December 6 comes Y2K, a comedy horror film from the entertainment company A24. The film follows a what if take on Y2K, an event on New Years Eve 199, where many people believed that the switch from 99 to 00 would cause a global computer system crash worldwide. In this comedy horror film, when the clock strikes midnight, all the technology comes to life and turns on humanity. Highschoolers at a party, played by Rahcel Zegler, Julian Dennison, and Jaeden Martell, must survive the attacks from the evil electronics. This movie is the directorial debut of Kyle Mooney, a comedian and actor who is known for being on SNL, along with acting in a variety of movies and shows. Y2K is a thrilling and entertaining disaster movie.
2.) Kraven the Hunter
From Sony comes Kraven the Hunter on December 13. The movie is an origin story of the popular Spider-Man villain, Kraven the Hunter. The movie has an interesting take on the character, with him as an intense warrior and hunter, going on a path of vengeance and violence. Aaron Taylor Johnson plays gritty hunter Kraven. Russel Crowe is also in the movie, playing Kraven’s father, Nikolai Kravinoff. From director J.C. Chandor, comes this phenomenal addition to the Sonyverse. Kraven the Hunter is a Rated R superhero movie, packed with action and adventure.
3.) Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
On December 13 comes Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, by the legendary director Kenji Kamiyama. This new Lord of the Rings is animated in Kamiyama’s style of anime. The movie takes place around 200 years before the events of “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The film tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, a king of the fictional kingdom Rohan. Hammerhead and his family nust defend themselves in a great war against another royal house. Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells a unique story inspired from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and is a visually stunning animated feature.
4.) Nickel Boys
On December 13, Nickel Boys comes out, and is directed by RaMelll Ross. The movie is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Colson Whitehead. Nickel Boys tells the story of two young African American men navigating their way through a reform school in Florida. It is based on the historic reform school in florida, the “Dozier School for Boys.” This school was known for its abusive treatment of its students. Nickel Boys stars Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson as two young men, Elwood and Turner. Nickel Boys is a remarkable film, with an emotional and immersive story.
5.) Mufasa: The Lion King
Mufasa: The Lion King comes out on December 20. Directed by Barry Jenkins, this movie tells the story of Mufasa from the original Lion King movie. The story follows Mufasa as a young lost lion cub, who meets another young lion, Taka. The two of them set off on a journey with a ragtag group of animals, journeying through the pride lands of Africa into unknown regions. This film has stunning cgi and animation that makes the animals appear incredibly lifelike. Mufasa: The Lion King is a perfect movie to watch with your family and friends this holiday season. This movie is a love letter to all fans of The Lion King, as it expands onto the story of the world in a fun, new, entertaining way.
6.) Sonic 3
On December 20 comes Sonic 3. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will reunite against a fast new enemy… Shadow. Jim Carrey returns as the Sonic villain Dr. Robotnik, and will also be playing his father, Gerald Robotnik. The movie is based off of the Sega video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the movie is being released by Paramount Pictures. Sonic 3 is a fun, action packed, entertaining movie. Whether you are a fan of the game or not, you will enjoy watching the movie.
7.) The Brutalist
The Brutalist releases on December 20.This film is a masterpiece from director Brady Corbet, The stars academy award-winning actor Adrien Brody, as the character László Tóthm an ambitious architect. The film follows Tóth, who escaped from Europe after WWII, and moved to America to pursue his passion as an architect. In America, when Tóth meets Harisson Lee Van Buren, a wealthy industrialist, played by Guy Pierce, his life is changed forever. Felicity Jones plays László Tóth’s wife, Erzsébet Tóth. The Brutalist is a stunning, breathtaking masterpiece of a film that tells the incredible story of an immigrant family during the birth of modern America, trying to pursue the American dream.
8.) The Room Next Door
The Room Next Door comes out on December 20. This is Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s feature length English-language debut film. It won the Golden Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The Room Next Door stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, and tells the story of two best friends who reconnect after being out of touch for many years. Swinton and Moore show off their acting talent in this heartwarming, emotional drama.
9.) A Complete Unknown
On December 25 comes A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold. The film is a biopic of the famous musician Bob Dylan, who is being played by Timothee Chalamet. Mangold has experience with musician biopics, because in 2005 he directed a Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line, which was nominated for multiple academy awards, and won Reese Witherspoon an oscar for Best Actress. A Complete Unknown will tell the story of a young Bob Dylan in the 1960’s and his rise to fame, with the many challenges and obstacles he faces, with his love life and career, during the folk music movement. Chalamet goes all in on the roll, with his incredible and accurate portrayal of Bob Dylan, and covered all of Bob Dylan’s songs in the film. A Complete Unknown is being distributed by Searchlight Pictures, and is an incredible and electric biopic that is guaranteed praise for all who worked on it.
10.) Nosferatu
Nosferatu releases in theaters on December 25th. Nosferatu is a remake of a film by the same name that came out in 1922. The remake is directed by Robert Eggers.He has directed The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman. Nosferatu will be his fourth feature film. Eggers is a very unique and stylized director, whose films have a gothic style, and experiment with colors, sounds, music, and camera angles. The film will be distributed by Focus Features. Nosferatu has an impressive cast, with Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Lily Rose-Depp. Nosferatu tells the gothic tale of a vampire, Count Orlock, who becomes obsessed with a young woman, and his awakening causes ineffable horror.
