March for Science
Worldwide rallies were held to protest political interference with the environment. These rallies were held on Earth Day, April 22nd, protesting Trump and his decision to cut funding for science research. Organizers stated that, “it was a celebration of science and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community.”
The main event was held in Washington D.C, aimed at Donald Trump. In DC, Jonathan Foley, the executive director of the California Academy of Sciences, said that research was being irrationally questioned, adding that attacks from politicians "amounted to oppression". Including climate change and pollution to medicine, men and women from around the world gathered to fight a cause that they believe is important.
Other rallies were held in Australia, Germany, London, Austria and Switzerland. Protesters in Austria put on their group Facebook page that they are joining this movement that started after Mr. Trump entered the White house. Junior Julianna Greene stated, “I really respect what these people protested against, I’d like to be apart of something like that one day to make a difference myself.”
These people who protested stood up for what they believe in and made a difference for the community.
