Miami Marlins General Manager, Kim Ng

On November 13, 2020, Kim Ng, an American executive in Major League Baseball was named the new general manager of the Miami Marlins. This is big news because it makes her the first woman in major American men’s professional sports to hold that position.

 Not only is she the first female MLB general manager, she is also the first Asian American MLB general manager. Many are glad that Kim has become the first female general manager of color. Andre La Pointe said in a Sports Illustrated article, “It’s important that we don’t lose sight of that, I’m sure that not only has she faced sexism, she’s also faced racism.” During these times this is a big issue going on in the world. 

Kim Ng couldn’t believe she had got the job, she told TODAY news “I was in utter disbelief”. This was a big moment for women across the globe. Many females don’t play baseball, so for the Miami Marlins to have the first ever female general manager, is a big game changer.
