Thanksgiving in a Pandemic

The year 2020 has been a very crazy year to say the least. With the worldwide pandemic, everyone has had to adjust their lives to a new normal. Although the corona virus has been in the US as early as March, people have not experienced big holidays such as Thanksgiving yet.

Many families have traditions every year when it comes to Thanksgiving. Whether it's going to a loved ones house, going to a parade, or just staying home and eating an abundance of food. With covid-19, everyone around the world is going to have a different holiday season than ever before.

A huge tradition is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It is held in New York City every Thanksgiving with thousands of participants dancing, singing, and walking the floats and balloons. Senior Megan Markowski said, “I have attended the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for as long as I can remember. This is the first time my family and I are not going due to the pandemic. It is very upsetting to stray away towards my traditions, but I would rather be safe than sorry.”

Macy’s announced that the parade will still be televised, yet capacity will be reduced to 75%. The performers will all be following social distancing protocols and safety measures to make sure everyone is healthy. This will definitely be different than the normal parade, but at least it will still be televised.

We are all in this together, worldwide which gives a sense of comfort that you are not alone. This Thanksgiving will be one to remember for sure.
