Will the Pandemic Worsen Even More?
In recent news, coronavirus outbreaks are rising and an estimated 245,000 new cases a day is the average as of right now. Senior, Allison Brown stated that, “This means people need to try harder to wear masks, avoid gatherings and stay socially distant from one another.”
Our DNA mutates all the time, however some mutations are not good. RNA is 1 strand instead of 2 strands. Viruses mutate, making viruses unrecognizable to the immune system. A new Mutation of coronavirus has become noticeable to the public that seems to spread quicker, however, it is not anymore harmful. This variant was first identified in Britain known as B.1.1.7 is being found in the US as well, and modeling indicates it could worsen the already horrific spread of the virus across the country. Senior, Lizzie Kennedy stated, “This means it will be even more difficult to control this virus.”
Distribution of vaccines is still extremely difficult, as distribution is still a major hurdle. Many people believe that certain states will not be fully vaccinated for a year and a half. Senior, Maya Salzman stated that, “Efforts to vaccinate citizens are even slower than the federal government predicted.” Many citizens are scared that when their time comes around to receive the vaccine, the supply will run out.
