What Has Biden Done In Just One Day?
Yesterday at approximately 12 in the afternoon, Joseph R. Biden was inaugurated into office. He will serve for the next four years as our 46th President of the United States. An election that completely shredded this country apart and pitted both parties against one another. In just a short 24 hours Biden has already done so much for our country.
Biden has already shown the people that he will make the most of his time in office and he will do right by the people, as promised repeatedly throughout his campaign. This comes after doubt coming from all sides that President Biden would not be able to hold on his end of promises.
People speculate because many of the changes that other presidents and leaders have “guaranteed” have fell through. In politics, no matter what a candidate says while campaigning, it is never fully promised. Obama promised to reform immigration regulations within his first 100 days in office, however his efforts were unsuccessful. Trump also made very large promises to his supporters, most of them failing to prevail. It is not very uncommon for a candidate or politician to make big promises and never fulfill them.
This gives people a reason to doubt Biden and his willingness to hold on his end of the promises in the same way so many others have failed. However, this doubt doesn’t mean anything. Some of our best presidents have been the most underestimated.
After seeing all the things he’s done in just 24 hours, it is clear that we have all underestimated Biden, even his own supporters, and especially his opposers. He is solving problems in seconds, that other people have made out to seem impossibly difficult, with this swift of a pen. He is solving enduring issues in our country without hesitation or doubt.
No other president has ever done something like this so quickly. Biden is confronting conflicts that have completely divided the nation for years with such grace and humility.
Biden proves to the American people how easy it is for someone like him in power to do the right thing. Something that so many other politicians have made seem attainable. In these 24 hours he has shown us that all other leaders were always capable of making these changes but chose not to. It has never been a limit of power but a limit of the will to do it and make change. Biden has shown his will to change our country and move forward.
Here are some things Biden has done in just 24 hours by executive order:
-“100 Days Masking Challenge”
-Restrictive federal government coordination to the COVID-19 pandemic
-Rejoin the World Health Organization (WHO)
-Extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums
-Continue to “pause” on student loan payments until September 30
-Rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement
-End Keystone XL pipeline and revoke oil and gas developed at national wildlife monuments
-Actions to advance racial equity through the federal government
-Count non-citizens in the U.S. Census again
-Stegthen workplace discrimination protections based on gender identity and sexual orientation
-Defend the Dreamers program for undocumented young Americans
-End the “Muslim Travel Ban”
-Change Trump’s arrest priorities for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
-Stop border wall construction
-Keep protections for a group of Liberians in the country
-Freezing last minute Trump administration regulatory actions
-Formulate Executive Branch Ethics Doctrine
Quite the long list, and that’s not even where it ends. Biden has already shown to the people how smart and calculated he will use his time in office to do the best possible job. All executive orders are pushing for positive change here in our country, but there were few that were an exceptionally big deal. Biden ended the “Muslim Travel Ban” with a signing, which is absolutely huge. Biden also halted the construction of the pipeline that would have gone right through the sacred and sovereign land of the Great Sioux Reservation in Montana. People fought and peacefully protested for years and years to stop the construction, and in hours, Biden turned the entire thing around for them.
