iCarly Reboot is in the Works, and We’re Ready for it

An iCarly reboot is in the works at Paramount+, the streaming service currently known as CBS All Access. It was revealed that original cast members such as Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainer will be returning to our screen.

Producers Jay Kogen, known for School of Rock, The Simpsons, and Frasier and Ali Schouten, known for Diary of a Future President, Champions, and Merry Happy Whatever are taking on the reboot. Kogen confirmed the reboot on twitter, saying, “People were asking what I was doing. Now I can tell you. We get to make iCarly for ADULTS!”

iCarly first premiered in 2007, ran for 5 seasons and ended in 2012. The show followed Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) and her friends, Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress) as they ran a webshow that went viral. They also tackle high school life. iCarly was incredibly successful while on air, winning 5 emmys and obtaining a huge fanbase.

Fans noticed however, Jennette McCurdy was not mentioned as a returning cast member, nor was Noah Munck, who played the beloved character Gibby. It has yet to be confirmed by producers or the actors themselves whether or not they will be returning. McCurdy has been working on a podcast and her one-woman show, I'm Glad My Mom Died, so it is possible that she has other projects in her schedule and does not have the time for the reboot. McCurdy wrote an essay for the Huffington Post in March of 2019 where she revealed she struggled with an eating disorder while on iCarly, this could possibly be a reason for her not returning. Fans hope that they return as the show would not be the same without them.

Paramount+ has yet to confirm a release date for the reboot. The streaming service is supposed to air in 2021 so hopefully the iCarly reboot will come out in early 2021.
