Harborfields Varsity Cheer Begins the "Rebuilding Process"

The Harborfields Varsity Cheerleading team is undergoing major changes within the program since receiving the first invitation to Nationals in Harborfields history last year. With uncertainty looming amongst the program, one thing that’s certain is the team’s positive outlook towards having another successful season. With the new coach  taking over the entire program, the show is being run a little differently, but nonetheless should make the cheerleading team an entertaining part of our school culture that students should enjoy.

When asked about the difficulty of the major change and the team’s approach to this season, Hadley Henrikson, a three year performer on the varsity team, said, “The transition itself is most difficult to our program as a whole because not everyone gets to have a season this year. Some of our cheerleaders have an entire year of not improving and now varsity has to work extremely hard to have a uniform level of skill throughout the team.” With the challenges that lay ahead for the program, the team still has high hopes for the coming events this year. “Our season can be successful and that isn’t defined by going to nationals. We aim to do better than we have ever done for our state competitions and have potential to be very successful”, said Henrikson.

The biggest change the school can expect to see is a change from the program having both junior varsity and varsity teams, to a combined varsity team consisting of all grade levels within the high school. The seniors are without a doubt courageously leading this team in the right direction that juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will pick up on for years to come. Be sure to keep up with the team’s success throughout the fall and winter seasons, as they truly are a fun, up and coming team to watch.
