The Fall of Cam Newton
Cam Newton is a name most football fans know. He is 2010 Heisman trophy winner, first overall pick in the 2011 draft, 2011 rookie of the year, and 2015 NFL MVP.
He also holds the NFL record for most QB rushing touchdowns(14) and most games with rushing and passing touchdowns (39).
The career Cam Newton has had is one most quarterbacks dream of. Unfortunately after a disappointing loss in Super Bowl 50 to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, Cam was never the same.
The next year Newton and the Panthers had a very disappointing season, going 6-10 following an outstanding year. Even to this day the Panthers do not even compare to the team they were in 2015.
There were many reasons for this collapse of an elite program such as Carolina. One of the main ones was the fall of Cam. Having injured his shoulder and a big ego blow in a Superbowl loss, it was obvious something had changed. Ever since then the Panthers organization has been at a stand still in productivity, resulting in the firing of head coach Ron Rivera.
Fortunately for the Panthers they have plenty of young talent to build around, especially superstar Christian McCaffrey. Things may have gone poorly for the past few years, but with proper guidance and new ownership under David Tepper, this organization can turn it around for the better.
