Brendan Polay, Underappreciated?
Senior Brendan Polay, starting center and nose tackle on Harborfields football team, has had an outstanding career.
Throughout all four years, Polay has dominated on the line racking up “pancakes” (i.e. when an offensive lineman hits a defensive lineman he ends up laying flat on his back, you know, like a pancake) and tackles for a loss. Being pulled up as a sophomore and starting on varsity as a junior and being voted for captain his senior year, Polay has put in the work to have an outstanding senior year.
Even with his elite level of play and the true attitude of a leader, Brendan Polay does not get the recognition he has earned. Football is the ultimate team sport; it is necessary that all eleven players perform to their fullest for the team to be successful. Unfortunately, that's not how the average person sees it. To everyone else, whoever scores the touchdowns is the best or most popular.
Therefore, players like Johnathan Osmun, varsity quarterback and captain, are known for their ability to make plays and score touchdowns. But, if you were to ask anyone on the team, they would tell you that Osmun would not be able to do what he does without Brendan and the offensive line.
According to Micheal Panriello, starting wide receiver and captain, “I would not be able to score any of my touchdowns without the outstanding performance by Brendan and the rest of the offensive line.”
Therefore, although he doesn't get the credit, Brendan plays a bigger role than the people in the stands believe. Take a trip out to West Hampton Beach this Friday night at 6:00 to watch Brendan and the offensive line take on the Hurricanes!
